Indu Bajaj QSM, MSW

Originally from India, Indu completed her Bachelor of Arts and Masters in Social Work at Lucknow University. She migrated to New Zealand with her husband and family from East Africa. She then worked as a Social Worker for many years with various Government departments and Voluntary organizations. In January 1994, she founded Shanti Niwas Charitable Trust to address various social, cultural, health, and physical needs of older people of Indian and South Asian origin.

She was a Charter member of Rotary Club of Auckland Harbourside, Board Member of Asian Social Services and Committee Member of Pan Pacific South East Women’s Association.
She was a member of Multicultural Society of New Zealand, member of Community Safety Group facilitated by the Auckland Police, and, Volunteer Community Coordinator for the Office of Senior Citizens, Ministry of Social Development.
In 2001, she was awarded the ‘Queens Service Medal’ for her services to the community at large.
In March 2012, she retired as a Project Manager, Shanti Niwas Charitable Trust.
